FAQs for applicants

Working at Fashion Cloud

At Fashion Cloud, we are applying a hybrid working model. We believe our offices will continue to serve as an important place for people to come together, exchange ideas and collaborate face-to-face. It’s just in our cultural DNA! Therefore, our employees work a minimum of 2 days per week at the office and the rest of the week they can choose where to work from within their home country, which is usually the Netherlands or Germany.

Additionally (because we know how much fun it can be), Fashion Cloud employees can work remotely from any EU country for up to 4 weeks per year if they like.

Since we’re a team of many different nationalities and have international customers, our company language switched to English over time. So we’re aiming to also address everyone in English here, too.

For some positions at Fashion Cloud, it’s still necessary to be able to speak German, Dutch or other languages fluently, which is why we sometimes still post positions in a certain language.

Career fit

We update our career page frequently. All positions posted on our job page are currently open. We’re looking forward to receiving your application! :)

Yes, we do. They are always also published just as all other open positions. You can find more information about job opportunities to work as an intern, working student, and fresh graduate under the section: Intern or Working Students.

If you want to work at Fashion Cloud but you are not sure which position, do not worry. You have several options: Either you reach out to our recruiters via the contact form that pops up when entering the job page, or just apply for the most suitable position in your eyes and quickly let us know what you’re actually looking for. You can also reach out to them via LinkedIn. They are happy to check your application and find a suitable position for you at Fashion Cloud.

Most of the positions are full-time but we occasionally have some part-time ones. For some roles, we can be flexible in working hours, so don’t hesitate to communicate your needs openly when applying or in the process.

There are some positions for which Fashion Cloud might be able to sponsor visas, depending on the requirements of the jobs and the qualifications of the candidate. Especially for tech-related roles, such as QA Engineers and Software Developers, we usually offer relocation. If we won’t relocate people from other countries, we normally include that information in the job description.

If you can’t find any specific info, feel free to apply for the position that you feel qualified for. Our recruiter will let you know if the position you have applied for is appropriate for visa sponsorship or not during the recruitment process.

Just apply for the job as you normally would. If a recruiter contacts you for the position you have applied for, please share information about your relocation plans with the recruiter, as this is being handled case-by-case and may vary by the role you are applying for.

  • If the particular position does not have a relocation budget available, our recruiter will let you know.
  • If the particular position has a relocation budget available, our recruiter will take care of everything for the relocation process.

Application process

You’ll be able to hand in all the documents we ask for in the short application form we have for the open positions. For all the positions at Fashion Cloud, we would be glad to receive either your CV or any document or link (e.g. LinkedIn) that can show us your experience and motivation working at Fashion Cloud.

For some roles (e.g. Design), we ask for a portfolio or similar – no worries, you’ll find more information on that in the job description.

After receiving your application, we will send you a confirmation mail. You will then expect to receive our feedback between one and three weeks. If you don’t hear anything back from us after max. three weeks, feel free to send us a short message – some processes take a bit longer due to many applications or uncertainties on our side.

After you had an interview with us, we usually get back to you with further information within 1-2 weeks.

Our recruitment process is quite straightforward. Normally, our recruitment process includes three main steps: Meet and Greet with our recruiters, Meet the hiring manager, and Meet the team. For some roles, we also include a task (Take Home Assignment). However, we drive a slightly flexible approach in our process, so whenever we or the candidate feel like another step is necessary, we will discuss it. Also for different roles, such as leadership positions, we have some extra steps, in which we can get to know each other deeper.

So what do the steps look like?

  1. Step 1: Meet and Greet our recruiters

After we receive your application and it catches our eye, one of our recruiters will get in touch with you to plan a call. It will be a video call of about 30-45 minutes where they tell you more about Fashion Cloud and the position. They will also ask you about your motivation for joining us, and learn more about your experience, and your personality.

  1. Step 2: The first interview – Meet our hiring manager

Let’s meet our hiring manager, shall we? This will normally be a one-hour video call. With some positions, this call can take a little bit longer. Here you will meet the hiring manager and eventually one colleague from the team you will be working on. They will give you more insights about the team and challenge you with some questions or missions related to daily tasks. They will also answer all your questions about it.

Sometimes, this interview step is also connected to the Take Home Assignment.

  1. Step 3: The second interview – Meet the team

Whoo-hoo, here we are, the last step of the process! Now you are ready to (e-)meet the rest of the team you will be working with. The interview will take around 2 ~ 3 hours.

Sometimes, this interview step is also connected to the Take Home Assignment.

Yes, you can. Feel free to apply for the positions that you find yourself a good fit for.

Sure! If you’ve found another job or you simply don’t want to continue the process anymore, we’re happy to receive a short message about that from you. We’ll make sure to get you out of the process then.

Our system does not offer that option, but we’re happy to receive an email from you with further documents or information if you’d like to share more or different ones.

Interview preparation

Since the pandemic, we changed the setup to mostly remote, just as many other companies. So the first call will usually be a video call, as well as the second one (unless there is no other reason why it should be on-site already). But anyway, we’re still fans of getting to know the people face to face and showing them our office (and potentially making them meet colleagues), so there will be one meeting in the Hamburg/Amsterdam office for sure in the further application process.

Here are some tips we want to share with you so you can be well-prepared for the interview with us.

Before the interview:

  • Make sure that you are aware of the competencies required for the position and think of how you could use your skills & experiences in the position at Fashion Cloud.
  • Get to know our company’s mission, vision, and goal. You can learn even more about Fashion Cloud via our social media pages: website and LinkedIn (connect with us, follow us and like us if you’d like).
  • Find out more about our products to understand what we’re doing -you’re happy to add upon information during the interview.

During the interview:

  • Be yourself
  • Be specific and give examples where needed.

At Fashion Cloud, we don’t have a dress code. Wear whatever you feel most comfortable in and present yourself the best!

Feedback

At Fashion Cloud, our recruiters always try to give our candidates status within one or two weeks. During the interview with our recruiters, we will help you understand the specific timeline for the position you are applying for.

Yes, you can and we’re more than happy to receive it! Either you reach out directly to us or you leave a rating at Kununu or Glassdoor.

Working students

Yes, an application is possible at any time whenever we have an open position as a working student.

You should be available to work at least 8 hours a week, but we like to keep that flexible. In general, our working time regulations for working students are highly flexible, so just tell the recruiter in the first call how many hours you’re planning to work.

Also, we totally understand that in some weeks, you will not be able to work (a lot) due to some examinations or projects. No problem for us – communication is key here once you’ve started. :)

We’d like you to be available and enrolled for at least 2 more semesters after your start to be able to really offer you the insights and learning we’re aiming to give you.

Interns

In general, you should apply for an internship about 1-3 months before your start date. Usually, the job description already tells you what the anticipated starting date is. Nevertheless, we are also huge fans of spontaneous requests.

We only offer internships for students and voluntary internships for graduates. Please let us know in your application whether you want to do a mandatory or a voluntary internship.

Usually, the length of an internship is between 3 and 6 months, but in doubt, the job description gives you more information on that. That way, we can ensure you really get to know the job and the company and maybe you can even do some projects on your own.

Generally, internships are paid at Fashion Cloud. How much exactly you get depends on your career to date, which means your education and work experience.

Generally, there is the possibility of writing your thesis at Fashion Cloud. Nevertheless, the topic must have a practical reference to Fashion Cloud. Just reach out to us and ask!

No, Fashion Cloud does not yet sponsor VISAs for international students.
